Meet the Visionary Behind the Scenes

Dicy McCullough, author of the Tired of Books, continues to captivate the attention of young readers throughout her community. She is a retired music and kindergarten teacher from the Rowan-Salisbury School System in North Carolina.

With a background in early childhood education and music, the idea for this series came from kindergarteners and discussions about the things they have grown tired of, such as riding a school bus and waking up early in the morning.

Following the imaginative tales of John Allen and his pal Louie, McCullough has written seven stories to complete the series. Her vibrant characters, engaging narratives and relatable stories not only entertain but inspire creativity and curiosity in her readers.

Even in retirement, McCullough stays busy writing, playing the piano and spending time with friends and family, including her five grandchildren, who she adores. She enjoys sharing her books with schools, churches and organizations. McCullough’s contribution to children’s literature has had a lasting impact, fostering a love of reading and sense of wonder in the minds of many.

“Writing stories rooted in real experiences brings life into narratives, which allows real emotions and events to live throughout the pages of my work. By infusing fictional constructs with genuine truths, I am able to create a connection between myself and readers and that is beautiful.”
