Ed Pilegard: Discovering Beauty through the Lens of a Camera
Everyone has a different talent and that’s a good thing. If we all had the same talent, this would be a boring world for sure. I especially appreciate those who have an eye for photography. It’s as if they see things the rest of us don’t see. Then again, maybe it’s not they see things the rest of us don’t see, maybe the real secret is in the detail.
Ed Pilegard is one of those talented people with a camera, writing on the Carolina Artists’ website that he was given a Pentax 35mm camera in 1977. He also said, “That was the beginning of my artistic journey.” Ed especially enjoys taking photos of “vintage items and rural subjects,” as can be seen in this photograph of fall leaves.
He gave me permission to post it, saying the photograph was taken in the fall of 2011 on a “game trail” in Badin, NC. Ed explained that a “game trail” is where animals make a path through the woods. This photo clearly captures the essence of fall with crisp colors of red, orange and yellow, highlighted by the sun peeking through the trees.
Seeing beauty not only through the lens of a camera, but as an EC teacher at Cleveland Elementary School, Ed helps children find their hidden beauty and talents every day.
Congratulations, Ed Pilegard. You’re my choice for favorite person of the week.
One more thing, thanks Ed for reminding me what a beautiful place Badin can be in the fall, surrounded not only by the glorious backdrop of Morrow Mountain, but Badin Lake as well. I can’t wait to take a trip there soon.
Do you have a favorite photograph or know a great photographer? If so, I’d like to hear from you.
